Beverage Coaster Marketing Techniques
The drink coaster can be more than just a way of protecting surfaces from water stains and scratches. They can also be a way to make money. Depending on your niche, there are a variety of clever ways that you can use coasters to get your message out there, to engage interested buyers, and to brand your company’s identity.
The most common use of coasters is to sell beverages. These beverages are most often beer and wine, although anyone who produces liquid nourishment that can be placed in a glass, and subsequently rested on a coaster, can be a potential advertiser.
Selling beverages is a natural with coasters. You know the person viewing the ad is thirsty, and so their mind is already primed to take in a marketing message about a cool, or warm, but highly refreshing liquid.
This is a method that is often used by beer and wine companies in order to maximize their advertising dollars. These coasters are distributed free of charge to bars and taverns, where their customers are most likely to see them, and immediately act upon the marketing message.
On the opposite end of this, drink coasters have also been used to try and stop people from drinking. The government of several states has issued a series of free coasters to bars, which contain facts about drunk driving, or the health problems associated with too much liquor in the system.
In India, the government of Mumbai actually issued coasters with pictures of victims of drunk driving printed on them. When a wet glass was placed on the coasters, they took on distinct red marks that looked blood stains over their faces. This was intended to drive home the danger of drinking and driving in as creepy a way as possible.
When using drink coasters as a marketing initiative it is important to tailor your campaign to the medium. The coaster is used in a bar, so bar friendly companies tend to dominate this field. However any beverage, or even an ad against the drinking of certain beverages, can be used to get your message out through this clever marketing device.
