How You Can Take A Screen Shot
Computers have become incredibly useful, as they seem to be adding more and more capacity and computing power every year. The first computer I ever bought, many years ago, shouldn’t even be in the same room as the magnificent machines of today. With all the amazing software you can get, there is virtually no limit to what you can accomplish.
Nothing, however, is perfect. There are times when you come to a screeching halt because of some technical problem that you just don’t understand. Some software is giving you error messages that would take a PhD in programming to understand, and you’re stuck. When this happens, you need to turn to the support system for your software publisher. This is usually based on some kind of ticket system. A ticket is a request for help that is submitted and responded to.
This usually works effectively, and most issues are resolved without any further problems. However, sometimes it can be tough to describe in words the actual problems you are having. Many of the error messages you get are nearly impossible for anybody except an advanced programmer to understand, so it’s not much help to fill out a ticket with the complaint: “I keep getting an error message.”
A great way to get specific without needing to understand advanced programming language is to take a screen shot. This is an image of your desktop, exactly as it is, error messages and everything. You do this by simply pushing the “Print Screen,” or “PrtSc” button on your keyboard. It’s usually in the upper right someplace. This copies an image of your desktop onto your clipboard, so you can paste it somewhere.
Once your image is copied to the clipboard, you can paste it a couple of different ways. One is to paste it into “Paint,” which is the basic graphics program that comes with Windows. You’ll find it under the Start menu. Then click on “All Programs,” and then “Accessories,” and finally “Paint.” Once it’s open, simply right click anywhere inside, and paste. Once the image is pasted, save the new file, and send it as an attachment to your ticket.
One more way you can do this is to open Microsoft Word, and then simply paste the image into a blank document. Then you can write some kind of a description under the image, like what you were doing when you got that particular message. Then be sure to save the document, and send it as an attachment to your ticket.
This straightforward method will make it much easier for you to get help when you need it, and explain yourself in situations when words alone simply can’t do the job.
