Fall of Autumn Filmstrip: Offset Printing
http://www.fallofautumn.com
Ever wonder how offset printing works? or when they’re going to pull the plug on the internet?
**Thanks YouTube for making this an Editor’s Pick/Featured HowTo and DIY video!**
This is the first filmstrip in a series Alan hopes to complete on the various printing techniques in use today. Blending education with ideology, the filmstrip presents a run down of the different parts and processes of the offset machine and talks with Eberhardt Press founder Charles Overbeck.
Edited and produced by Alan Lastufka. Cameraman: Joe Biel. Music: Sour Grapes and imadethismistake. Special thanks to Charles Overbeck. Distributed by www.fallofautumn.com

Dear sir / madam
We are a printing shop in Tirana Albania.
We are near to buy Roland RVK 3B 4/0 2/2 of the year 1986, Format 720X1000 mm Model 638.
We need to know if this machine can print on 2/2 mode for 580×860, or 610×860, or 500×700 format paper (smaller than maximum format). Can you please send some instructions how to do change to 2/2 mode for a middle format paper like 580 x 860 ?
We would appreciate very much your help.
Thank you in advance
Best regards

And ha, just realized while watching again that the duplicator he’s using is the same one I used in college! Forgot the name of it though…
In my college, I’ve …
In my college, I’ve taken two classes where we ran offset presses and duplicators. The machines are fun to operate and do require a good eye and hand to work. It’s quite the craft to be involved in which I’m happy I’ve learned.
Great video!

I ran a 2 colour …
I ran a 2 colour SuperDream for years but the ink was too much.! I then opted for a Suzuki x7 and it ran well up against the popular 350 LC’s, but ooh! that fuckingink! I now run my work on a VF1000R in Red, Blue, Black and White at about 11,000 RPM, beats the Heidelburg anyday, but ooh! that ink!!

it all starts with what they call a print order theytype in the information in the computer it puts the image over the plate we can run up to a 72 inch wide web and ive seen 16 inch wide web jobs on seperate presses of course i prefer the man roland press alot cleaner then the older heidelberg m1000′s we got im a 3rd pressmen i got it made i hang rolls get the next job ready get chemicals and aprentice under the head and 2nd pressmen im 21 years old well laterz im from dyersburg Tn
What kind of press …
What kind of press is that. its looks like something I ran in the 80′s. A little sheet fed gestetner. Mate I wish you all the best, but I think you need to embrace change a little more.
Unfortunately there are hundreds of online digital printers taking jobs away from you because they can print 4 colours in one hit without film and plates, thats what happened to me. I had 2 Ryobis and found the work coming in the door too complicated for my presses, now I onsell on the net.

I love offset …
I love offset printing. I took a graphics class in high school where we learned the offset method. We were also responsible for making the school paper and football programs. I still have some and they look just as good today as when they came off the press.
I just visited your …
I just visited your site, kudos for starting up the way you did and making it to the top. And, congrats on your award as best printer 2004, 2005. I didn’t see any of the products you offered online? Or, a price list?
Take a look at my print ship online, and tell me what you think. I’m interested to see what a veteran shop owner thinks of my site!
I have looked at a …
I have looked at a couple of these “online design and order” sites, and the systems they use…most are unattainable for small startups like me. I offer excellent quality, and low prices. If I purchased one of these proprietary online ordering and design systems, the overhead alone (to pay for the system) would not be worth it. Why are these systems so expensive? I’m going to let you know what I think of yer site. Brb.
Kudos! I agree with …
Kudos! I agree with this, and provide wholesale pricing (well, as wholesale as I can and still eat)because, like you (sort of, minus the anarchy thing maybe)I hate that some companies mark up their prices so much…for the same thing I sell for much less. Making a living, and ripping people off because they’re uniformed, are two different animals. I believe small mom and pop shops should be able to get the high quality printing the big dogs do…
Good Stuff, I was …
Good Stuff, I was looking for screen printing but this was very informative. I work for an embroidery company that also does printing but it’s on shirts/ apparel. Lots of similarities between the two.

Very nicely done. I’ve worked in the printing trade 31 years and I think you’ve done a great job.

I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Do you have a famous or infamous ancestor? Please check out my latest clip.
I agree. Your …
I agree. Your video is great and I appreciate the art for sure…I just found the juxtaposition striking. I’m not sure if you’re implying that many or most American businesses (most of which are small) get 500% profits, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. Trading the fruits of our labor for a fair price is a blessing to me.
There’s a …
There’s a difference between being paid for your time/materials and 500% mark-ups. =)

You reject capitalism…does that mean you print for free?
