In this example we are using a Brother QL-560 (http://www.labelzone.co.uk/viewProduct.aspx?product=470054E9-0BB2-4966-98F2-562B5C86C5AC) with the P-Touch Editor software.

1) Run the Royal Mail SmartStamp software

2) Click ‘Start printing trial stamps’

3) For single print labels, you have 2 options. The first is to select your printer from the dropdown menu. Your laser printer may show up; but be wary, this is a very expensive and wasteful option. Above that, select the format to print on; by default you should see Brother DK Labels, Seiko Labels and so on. Select the label you’ll be using, and you should see the template in the SmartStamp window adjust to your chosen size.

4) The menu to the left will allow you to select your postage options such as; Destination, class delivery, product weight, compensation for lost items and so on. That will update the postage for the label.

5) Hit trial print, and your label is done. Easy as that!

Teaching a child or children at home requires a large number of prints on a daily basis. Most people find that the most economical way to prepare those prints is through use of a laser printer. While you may have a higher initial outlay and toner may cost more to replace than ink cartridges, in the end you save money as the toner produces several times as many prints as the ink jet cartridge. Remember the you need to match name brand and model number of the printer to the toner, thus a Lexmark printer needs Lexmark printer toner.

Most ink cartridges are designed to produce less than one thousand copies per cartridge. Laser toner is designed to print several thousand copies with each cartridge. Thus, instead of having to replace a cartridge every two weeks, it may be two to three months or longer between replacements. Thus, although the initial outlay is more, in the end, prints cost far less.

In addition, you may find that you and your student always seem to be waiting for the prints to shoot out of your ink jet printer. Laser printers are always faster than ink jet ones.

If cost is a concern, many of the black and white laser printers have dropped in cost so that the initial investment is about the same as a color ink jet printer. You might consider purchase of one of these printers while keeping the jet printer for color prints.

One quality of the laser printer that you will appreciate is that the heat fused toner does not run when wet like ink from an ink jet printer does. This means that you can use the coloring pages that you printed for water coloring. If cooking is a part of your curriculum, then your students can use recipes that have been printed without worry of the print running from little spills. You can even use these prints as iron on transfers for t-shirts that the students color in using permanent or laundry markers for a craft project. Printer toner may be expensive, but can print a lot.

When using toner cartridges, you can also teach environmental responsibility. Most toner manufacturers offer recycling programs. Lexmark toner cartridges may be recycled. Address labels can be printed from the Lexmark website and the cartridges shipped back to the manufacturer for recycling.

If your child attends another school later in life, he will appreciate that he is able to get quick quality prints by using the same printer. Since the prints are waterproof, a project that the child has spent several weeks in producing will not be ruined if he is caught in a cloud burst, either walking to school or waiting for the school bus.

At the college level, the printer offers speed. No matter what the student is printing, there will not be a lot of waiting around for prints to shoot out of the printer. They are always high quality so that term paper will look great when turned into the professor.

Always keep spare Lexmark printer toner on hand to avoid having to interrupt your project to get more toner.
