Label Gun Inks – Uses And Applications For Business

Labelling gun ink is not only for elementary printing applications. With the progress of technology and the effort of chemists, ink technology can be used to take a simple labelling gun from marking up baked bean tins to ensuring your dentist never uses unsterilized tools on you. But how has this come about?

On thinking about it, you would probably not realise just how many uses can be found for labelling machines. Aside from labelling prices on items in retail stores, many business process and production uses come to mind. Food production is an area where label guns excel in providing date information, display until labelling or other coding for quality control purposes.

The ink may convey further data over and above the information that is printed on the label. Labels and ink can convey further information by being a specific colour to suggest a day of the week or production operative for example. Not only the label but the ink too can be used to pass on further information. The use of thermo-chromatic ink can add another variable for the passing of data on the label. The use of such inks enables the label to convey that a specific temperature has been reached. If you need a particular heat to be achieved, inks can oxidise to change their pigment, thus indicating the label has been subjected to that temperature threshold.

Before being placed in the sterilization autoclave, labels are adhered to dental utensils. Using ‘non-heat-sensitive’ dyes to mark a sterilization date and use by date, a label can convey detailed data. In between the firing date and the use by date, the label has a pre-printed band of heat indicating ink. Upon oxidizing (in heat), it changes colour to black.

The precise temperature that makes the ink oxidise depends upon the ink that the manufacturer provides. The usefulness of the thermo-chromatic ink is restricted to the physical tolerances of the adhesive and the label itself.
